The law clearly says you have to auto-enrol qualifying jobholders who work for you through a payroll. You must assess them on your staging date and every time you run your payroll.

Short-term or temporary staff

Auto-enrolment applies to your short-term and temporary staff in the same way as any other staff.

Assessment can be postponed for up to three months, but if the staff ask to join during that period or are still employed at the end of that period, they must be assessed and possibly auto-enrolled in the usual way.

Part-time staff

You must assess part-time staff in the same way as you do full-time staff. If an employee is aged between 22 and state pension age and earns over £5,824 a year, you must auto-enrol that person into your workplace pension.
