Well it maybe the 1st April but the countdown is really in full swing with just 3 weeks to go.
What with the Budget and the end of the tax year March has been a difficult month. To cap it all, I have picked up a couple of niggles. A couple of weeks ago I went across to the Lake District to run a 14 mile race around Lake Coniston. Not having done it before it was not exactly flat! And yes, it was around the lake. The views and the weather were absolutely stunning.
Hopefully I have only one long run to do before the big day and I hope the weather gets better than last weekend, when with 9 miles to go I got caught in a massive thunderstorm and the hailstones hurt. At least there were no dogs out to pester me.
So what do the next 3 weeks entail? In running terms, this is called the taper period. Basically you sit on the sofa and do nowt. If only. It is really all about making sure you are fresh and in good shape and also to make sure you eat the right foods. No biscuits, cakes or bars of chocolate after a training run. To be fair, if the chocolate is in the fridge I will eat it.
I hope the weather is not too hot for the run as hydration is important especially as most of my long runs have been in the cold.
